We were very fortunate to have one of our Brazilian students introduce her culture and knowledge to one of our Food Preparation and Nutrition class. She demonstrated how to make Brigadeiros, a cherished Brazilian sweet treat, sparking discussions about her heritage, culture and identity.
Brigadeiros are a classic Brazilian dessert made of three simple ingredients; condensed milk, butter and coco powder. Those ingredients are melted in a saucepan and then shaped into small truffles. They are commonly enjoyed at celebrations like birthdays and weddings.
We think food serves as a gateway to understanding diverse cultures, identities and tra'dish'ions
The Brigadeiro lesson taught us lots about Brazil, allowing our young person to share her knowledge and her delicious Brigadeiros!
