Our Creative Arts Curriculum

We run an extensive creative arts program, led by our dedicated creative arts lead, providing a safe and stimulating environment to explore creativity and learn new and exciting skills. Our curriculum provides opportunities for young people to earn qualifications including Art GCSE, A-Levels, Trinity College Bronze Arts Award and a variety of AQA Unit awards. We also take pride in our students' accomplishments, publishing their work on our classroom blog and creating regular exhibitions in the communal spaces in Simmons House.

Young people have the opportunity to explore a variety of creative skills, including:

Visual Arts - This includes activities such as painting, drawing, print making, ceramics, sculpture, makeup artistry and digital design.

Craft - Design & Technology projects including furniture making, pottery, textiles and more.

Literary Arts - Creative writing, including storytelling and poetry.

Music - Our visiting specialists offer one-on-one music lessons for instruments including the electric guitar, piano, bass guitar, drums, violin, and more. We have a wide variety of instruments available for students to learn through the Haringey Music service's instrument library. We also teach digital music making and record music using Logic Pro software.

Workshops - We organise workshops with industry specialists. Most recently hosting a workshop with renowned leather working film costumier. We have also welcomed famous DJ's, poets, painters and children's book illustrators.

Digital Arts/Media - We offer lessons in photography, photo editing, filmmaking, graphic design, and digital art to incorporate technology into creative expression.

Performing Arts - We can provide drama, dance, and music lessons for those interested in performing on stage.

Competitions - Students are encouraged to enter art competitions, such as the Royal Academy's Young Artist's Summer Show, to showcase their talents.

Arts Award is a range of unique qualifications run by Trinity College London that supports anyone aged up to 25 to grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with and take part in the wider arts world through taking challenges in an art form - from fashion to digital art, pottery to poetry.

Bronze

All students are given the opportunity to achieve their Bronze Arts Award while in the classroom.

To achieve Bronze, a Level 1 Award, young people must complete the following:

  • PART A: Take part in an arts activity they enjoy - this could be anything from watercolour to spray painting, embroidery to photography, song writing to learning a new musical instrument - it's totally open to personal preference.

  • PART B: Go to an arts event and reflect on and document the experience

  • PART C: Research their arts inspiration

  • PART D: Share a skill with others

Young people create their own Arts Award portfolios to keep a record of their creative journey. Their portfolio might be a sketchbook, folder, blog or a website – it’s up to them.
