#BakeforSyria

Today the classroom participated in a charity event in a bid to raise awareness of the suffering that many are experiencing in Syria at the moment, particularly children and young people.

There has been an ongoing civil war in Syria which has lasted for the past seven years, various groups have been trying to seize control of the country, some who support the president, others who dont , and some who are independent.

IS took over large parts of Iraq and then moved into eastern Syria, where they were able to gain land and power. Even though IS has since lost control of a lot of this land, fighting continues in the country, as a result at least 6.1 million ordinary people have had to flee their homes inside Syria, while another 5.6 million have fled abroad, this has affected a large number of children and young people in different ways.

As a UNICEF Bronze Rights Commited School we decided to make a contribution and participate in #BakeforSyria. Pictures of the process can be found below.

#BakeforSyria started as a single event in London, a charity bake sale on Columbia Road East London where many different bakers and chefs came together to sell products with a Syrian twist in order to support Unicef’s appeal for the children of Syria. The event has since grown in popularity and many different schools across London have since joined in the event; both raising money and celebrating Syrian food and Culture. We added pomegranate seeds to most of our recipes.

Overall the event was a huge success and we managed to raise £32.80 and we are still counting !!!

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed.
