A feast for the senses and a place to relax

We were thrilled to receive the amazing gift of 100 plants that needed to be re-homed following the Chelsea Flower Show. Our goal was to use these plants to create an outdoor haven where young people can relax and unwind, surrounded by beautiful plants that stimulate the senses through beautiful sights, scents, sounds and textures... and maybe even our sense of taste if our figs ever ripen.

Staff and students literally mucked in together to move a whopping 8 tonnes of soil and ground cover to fill the beds that would become our new sensory garden. Everybody had lots of fun driving the wheel barrows and got a bit of a workout using the spades. We were also quite proud of our innovation in creating a ramp so we could wheel the soil up to the top level of the garden.

Students managed to build two seats by upcycling pallets - showing not only their practical skills but also their commitment to the environment. We purchased a water feature that creates a shimmering centre piece.

We hope the young people will enjoy this space especially in the summer months. Check out the amazing transformation!

After!

Thanks to everyone who got into the spirit and helped out!
