Paper Folding Geo-structures

_DSC0163

One of the things we encourage students to do in the classroom is to experiment with materials and techniques they have never tried before. Students have the opportunity to search for project ideas around their own interests and this was an idea that a student stumbled across on pinterest and wanted to have a go at. It took a lot of patience to work out the technique but the end results are totally worth it. The possibilities with paper folding and origami are endless although also involve endless concentration and attention to detail! It didn't end up looking exactly like the starting image but was adapted to become a beautiful creation in its own right. It looks gorgeous as a hanging organic structure and would make a fantastic decoration or perhaps even light shade. It would be great to see how this idea could be developed further using different coloured papers and working on a larger scale.
