Eid Traditions - written by a student author.

Teachers asked the question; what are some interesting traditions during Eid that we might not know about?

Eid is a magical time of year that many look forward to. The day is filled with plenty of food, beautiful attire and spending time with lots of friends and family. But it isn't eid without some interesting traditions.

They seem somewhat bizarre to some but it wouldn't be Eid without them. Eids a special day so you have to start the day right with a sweet treat. One of the most popular treats, is called handesh or meethi seviyan. Essentially its pure sugar. I suppose there's no better way to start the day than a sugar rush.

Once you start visiting your beloved, for some reason the hugs have to be different to any other day. Normally you'd go to give your grandma a big long hug but not on eid. For an eid hug, you must give exactly 3 hugs consecutively on alternating sides. A lot of love shared! This is a tradition that happens all year round but the goodbyes will take FOREVER. The leaving process is definitely an hour in itself. It involves of getting up and down, saying goodbye multiple times... At the time close to you finally leaving, you'll probably be handed a card. Now there's no hiding everyone is not opposed to getting money but on eid it's an unspoken rule that you have to pretend you don't want to. You ignore all the money falling into your lap or on the floor because obviously you just don't notice it. You're too busy being fixated on the eid mubarak card. And after constantly saying no it's okay really, you'll end up getting a decent amount of money by the end of the day. Eids a special time, and these are just some of the things that make it unique.
