National Portrait Gallery Workshop 1

Today the classroom had the first of two workshops with visitors from the National Portrait Gallery based on their current exhibilion entitled 'Black is the new Black' ; a link to the exhibition can be found below

The workshop was led by three local professional practising artists each with a different specialism bringing their wealth of knowledge into the classroom along with opportunities for scientific learning.

The workshop also featured as a follow on to strengthen the message of Black History Month and to act as a reinforcement for the message of equiality and Feminism revolving around local British - Nigerian female scientist Maggie Adenin Pocock. who is a space scientist, science educator and BBC TV presenter of 'The Sky at Night'. Maggie is one of the inspirational Black who is featured in the 'Black is the new Black' exhibition at the national Portrait Gallery. More information about Maggie and her work can be found below

Students had the opportunity to learn about the acheivemnents of Maggie Adenin Pocock, use circuits to make light up christmas cards , use clay to make crater themed pencil pot holders, use paint and glitter to make decorations and to embroider constellations.
