Twenty One Pilots @ Brixton Academy 12/9/18

I really like the Brixton O2 Academy as a venue. It is a good size, and the floor is slanted so that you can always see the band, and I was here to see Twenty One Pilots. People had been queuing up overnight and had been given food, sleeping bags and made sure they were ok. Jenna (Tyler’s wife) also came round with some cake for people to eat. I arrived around 3.30pm, for doors opening at 7pm as I knew there was going to be a massive queue. Whilst I was in the queue people came round with yellow Duct-Tape, to wear to match the aesthetic of the new album. There was no support act, perhaps because the kit they had was so technical and it would have been difficult for anyone to share, and there was a flaming car on stage. The show was meant to start at 8.30, but actually started at 8.45, filling the time with lift music.

The first song they played was’ Jumpsuit’, then into ‘Levitate’, both from the new album and there was a lot of fire throughout the set. They were filming the concert for release at a later date.

They continued with:

Heathens

We Don’t Believe What’s On TV

The Judge

Nico and the Niners (Live debut)

Lane Boy

Holding Onto You

Stressed Out

Ride

My Blood (Live debut)

Car Radio

Trees

I though the gig was amazing. It would have been nice to be in the ‘pit’, but I was pleased just to be there. At one point Tyler, had stop to help someone in the pit as they were passing out.

Nothing could have been better, except for being longer. The venue can hold almost 5000 people and everyone had a great time (probably even the people who passed out).

They announced another gig at Wembley Arena, and I’m definitely going to try and go to that, even though it will be more expensive.

After the gig the venue kindly donated the sleeping bags, duvets, blankets and tents to a soup kitchen.
