It's a'Bao't time for a film review!

This week we have been exploring the arts as audience members.

We watched a short film called 'Bao', a Pixar short movie, depicting a mother and her Bao bun son.

Read what our young people had to say and take a look at their favourite stills from the animation.

What do you like about it any why?

It explores mature subjects that affect millions of families, cultures and areas with childlike sentimentality and through music, facial expressions and relatability.
I liked how it was actually quite interesting and the plot twist where she actually ate her Bao son and he came back as a human was really cool. I only actually noticed how there was no actual talking or dialogue but you didn't even need that to understand the story.

What happened at the arts event and what were the art forms involved?

A short film of animation stemming from writing, story boarding and character design.
The art for was digital animation, Someone also wrote the story which is an art form in itself. They designed and created all the characters as well.
They did research on how to make the actual food behind the scenes. The art form is animation.

What did you learn from this arts event?

I learnt that art can take many forms, not only going to an art gallery for example. It can be much more creative and interactive and even enjoyable.
That sophisticated are is not necessarily the highest art form, and infantile, modern art work can have a high and long lasting impact.
If a dumpling makes new friends or gets used to the new world it gets eaten ;)
